Board of Directors Cheryl Feldstein - President
Cheryl is a Board member and President of ACTV. She joined the ACTV Board because she is passionate about the environment and believes education is the key to change. An active citizen is involved in their community on multiple levels. Cheryl is the Executive Director of her favourite charity the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton and is involved in numerous eco-focused committees and groups around Edmonton..all of which are aimed to educate, motivate and ACTVate citizens in her community to make environmentally healthy and ecologically conscious choices in their dailylives.
"Do or do not…there is not try" -Yoda Allyson Jeffs – Vice-President I am a former journalist now pursuing a career in law. I worked for a number of years as a reporter at the Edmonton Journal and the Calgary Herald primarily covering politics and social affairs. Since completing my law degree and being admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2007, I have been practicing in the area of civil litigation at the law firm of Ackroyd LLP. To me, an active citizen believes individual decisions matter. An active citizen is willing to become informed and to make decisions deliberately and consciously, believing we are all accountable for our individual choices. It can be a simple as choosing to support a local farmer's market to limit the amount of food purchased from agri-business. It may mean getting involved in a global movement. Information gives us the power to begin controlling the decisions we make with an eye to building the future as we envision it.
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” - Goethe
Clara Richardson - Secretary
Clara is a member of the ACTV Board ofDirectors. When she’s not patrolling the ACTV website for pottymouths and swill merchants, she’s studying law at the University ofAlberta. When Clara heard about ACTV she jumped at the chance to getinvolved with an organization that promotes green living and helps tomake environmental solutions easy, fun, and accessible to thecommunity. For Clara, being an “active citizen” is simple: be thebest possible version of yourself. Keep an open mind and don’t beafraid to take risks for the things you believe in.
"Unless someone like you caresa whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not."— Dr. Seuss, from The Lorax Paul Schmold - Treasurer Paul is a board member and treasurer of ACTV. He is responsible for overseeing the financial matters of the organization. You can find Paul in an office downtown working on changing the image of a stereotypical Chartered Accountant. He joined ACTV in an effort to become more involved in the movement towards sustainable urban living and to share in the learning experience. To Paul, being an active citizen means continually re-inventing yourself and the way you interact with your environment and your fellow planet-dwellers.
"Only after the last tree has been cut down, Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten?" - Chief White Cloud Dan Slavik - Director-at-large Dan is one of the founding members ofACTV and sits on the Board of Directors. Dan iscurrently acting as productions coordinator. This means you can findhim behind the camera, in front of the editing suite, sitting atboard meetings, or out on the street connecting with Active Citizens(i.e. you and everyone else working to make our futures' green, sustainable, and rewarding). In his other life, he is doing aMaster's degree in Environmental Sociology at the University ofAlberta, examining social responses to ecological change.
